Buenos Aires walls or when the graffitis get mixed all together. That kind of walls, filled with small sized graffitis is commonly seen in the city. I took this shot close to the Recoleta Fair. If you look at them from a distance, they can appear a lot messy, but if you get a closer look, some of them are extremely well-done. Les murs de Buenos Aires ou quand les graffitis se mélangent. Ce genre de mur, rempli de petits graffitis, est tres fréquent en ville. J'ai pris la photo pres du quartier Recoleta. Si on les regarde de loin, ils peuvent paraitre tres fouilleux et desordones, mais quand on s'en rapproche, on s'aperçoit que certains sont tres bien fait.

I should call this one Graffiti Friday ;) This graffiti is actually taking an entire building facade, becoming more detailed and bigger at the corner of the street. I always had been interesting to know to whom its belongs. And then one night, passing by that place, I saw a huge line of youngs all dressed in black. After researching that location on a map, I ended up learning that, the building holds a club called Requiem- a gothic club of course. Je devrais appeler ca le graffiti du Vendredi ;) Ce graffiti s'étend sur toute la longueur de la façade de l'édifice, et les details sont plus nombreux au coin de la rue. Je me suis toujours demandée a qui appartenait cet édifice, et c'est alors qu'un soir, en passant dans le coin, j'ai apercu un foule de jeunes habillés de noir. Aprés avoir recherché l'endroit sur une carte, j'ai appris qu'il habritait un club, Le Requiem- club gothique, bien sur.

We took this picture inside the Colon Theatre. I know I should not have, since it is forbidden once you pass the main hall, but I could not resist. Turns out, that for me, the theatre's sections where they show you how they create all the suits, wigs, shoes, clothes and finally the stage settings where they paint and draw, were the most interesting. With my dad's small camera -Canon Ixus- I took the following shot. No idea though for which play they were working on. Photo prise a l'interieur du théâtre Colon. Oui je sais que je n'y etais pas authorisee car les seules photos que l'on peut faire sont juste dans le hall principal. En fait, le plus interessant pour moi dans la visite du théâtre, ce sont toutes les pieces ou les costumes, perruqes, maquillages, chaussures se font. Ce sont les parties les plus interessantes. La photo a ete prise dans un genre de hangar, ou ils preparent les decors. Par contre, je n'ai aucune idee sur qu'elle representation ils travaillaient.

So let me show you picture number 105 ;) Plaza Italia where this old-time horses's carriages share the road with the traffic in front of the Zoo entrance. Never did myself the tour. I guess I would rather see those horses in an empty wide field, free, and away from the always increasing pollution in Buenos Aires. Plaza Italia ou cet attelage partage la route avec la circulation devant l'entree du Zoo. Je n'ai jamais fait cette promenade. Je suppose que je prefererais voir ces chevaux libres, dans la nature, le plus loin possible de la pollution toujours envahissante de Buenos Aires.

In San Telmo, a nabe known best for its Sunday antique fairs and tango festival, an unmarked door gives way to a house that sits atop 1,500 meters of colonial-era tunnels dating back as far back as "El Zanjón de Granados", the village founded here in 1536. Created in 1979, on the centenary of the arrival of Argentina's first Japenese immigrants, the Japenese Garden is one of the capital's best-kept public spaces. On week ends there are also art expositions and music. This is also the most quiet place of all Buenos Aires - at least for me :) Happy Labor day for those of you celebrating it today, like in Argentina :)) Créé en 1979, pour le centenaire de l'arrivée des premiers immigrants Japonais en Argentine, le Jardin Japonais est l'un des endroits publics le mieux gardé de la capitale. Pendant les week-ends, il y a des expos d'art et de la musique. C'est aussi, pour moi, l'endroit le plus tranquille de Buenos Aires :) Bonne fete du travail a ceux qui le célebrent aujourd'hui, comme en Argentine :))

Are we in Hong-Kong or Buenos Aires? Those are street vendors. What they do is cook in front of you little cookies/pastries, some with the shape of teddy bears, others are round-shaped filled with pastry cream, or any other Chinese cream. Quite tasty and I guarantee you the line is big on week ends :) --In any case, you'd better check on Lisi's Hong Kong daily to discover a quite extraordinary Chinese city. Sommes nous a Hong-Kong ou Buenos Aires? Ce sont des vendeurs de rue. Ce qu'ils font, c'est qu'ils cuisinent en face de vous des petits gateaux, qui ont la forme de nounours et d'autres ont une forme plutot ronde et sont remplis de creme patissiere ou tout autre creme de style chinois. Ils sont tres bons et je vous garantie que pendant les week ends, les gens font la queue pour en manger :) -- En tout cas, vous devriez jetter un oeil au blog de Lisi sur Hong Kong et decouvrir une ville Chinoise des plus interessantes.

I'm happy to post my 101 posting today!! It has been interesting and quite challenging to post a picture every day, and most of all it has been really nice to have you discover daily, Buenos Aires in pictures. --Today I wanted to share a picture taken in the Iguazul National Park last week end. A Mono or monkey, in English, posing for the tourists. First time I got to see one, apart from my multiple excursions to the zoo ;). But to see one in its natural environment is absolutely nice. Alongside the waterfalls at Iguazu, the extraordinary variety of species of animals has become one of the outstanding features of the park. Je suis contente de faire ma 101 entree-blog aujourd'hui!! Cela a ete tres interessant et digne d'un challenge, tous les jours, de mettre en ligne une photo, mais plus que tout ca a ete un plaisir de vous faire decouvrir Buenos Aires au travers de photos quotidiennes. --Aujourd'hui, je voulais vous montrer une photo prise au Park National d'Iguazu le week end dernier. Un Mono ou singe en Francais, qui pose pour les touristes. C'etait la premiere fois que j'en voyais un dans son habitat naturel. Moi qui suis plutot habituee a en voir au zoo ;). D'en voir un dans son environnement naturel est quand meme quelque chose d'extraordinaire. A côté des chutes d'eau, la variété extraordinaire d'espèces animales est devenue une des caractéristiques remarquables du parc.

Ateneo Grand Splendid. Opened as a theater in 1919, it soon made the switch to become one of primier movie theaters in Buenos Aires. Now it is the largest bookstore in South America, which includes an ample choice of English and French books. And on the old stage is a nice cafe where you can sit and have something to drink or eat. The different sections of books are located where the audience used to sit as well as on the beautiful balconies of the old theatre. For those who will come to visit Buenos Aires one day :)) here's the address: Av. Santa Fe between Av. Callao and Riobamba.

Night shot of the Galerias Pacifico, at the corner of Florida st. and the Avenue Cordoba. The building was constructed in 1891 but the current mall only dates back to 1992. It was designed to resemble the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Milan, it features long halls, glass cupolas and several levels of shops. One can admire the building's beauty during the day as well as during the night. Vue de nuit des Galerias Pacifico, a l'angle de la rue Florida et de l'Avenue Cordoba. L'edifice a ete construit en 1891, mais l'actutel centre commercial remonte a 1992. Il a ete dessine dans le but de ressembler a la Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II a Milan. Il possede de longs halls, des coupoles de verre et plusieurs niveaux de boutiques. On peut tres bien admirer la beaute de cet edifice de jour comme de nuit.

Back to Buenos Aires, back to work in 2 hours. And yes Iguazu Falls was a blast. I was told it is beautiful, spectacular, immense open space where the water noise will stay in your head long after you've seen the falls. I have to say that all of this is true, and it is much more than that. It was a never before seen spectacle for me, a beauty of nature incredibly magic. Between walks in the jungle, a ride in a zodiac right under the falls (sensational!), a ride in a military truck, and splendid views of the Iguazu falls from the Argentinian and Brazilian sides, it was a week-end to remember. I will randomly share some pix in the next few weeks. Today, pic. number 1, taken from Brazil, at the end of the tour. I will try to add some info. about the park as well. To Luggi-- The French translation is about to come back really soon ;)

Three different stores, three different colors, different people walking pass them. --I won't be able to post any picture until next Tuesday, I'm getting ready to leave this morning to Iguazu Falls, in the north of Argentina, at the Brazilian border. I took this shot so that you have a better idea of how most of the newspapers kiosks look like in Buenos Aires. The seller usually stands outside or sit on a chair inside. Much comfortable than the one I showed you in an older posting. That kiosk stands on top of the subte station Ministro Carranza (commonly named Carranza) which is on line D of the city's subway network. This one is located at the districts' limits of Belgrano and Palermo. J'ai pris cette photo pour que vous ayez une meilleure idee a quoi ressemble la plupart des kiosques a journaux a Buenos Aires. Le vendeur se trouve soit a l'interieur, soit a l'exterieur assis sur une chaise. Ceux-ci sont beaucoup plus comfortable que celui que je vous ai montre l'autre fois. Ce kiosque se trouve au niveau du metro Carranza, qui fait parti de la ligne D du reseau metro de la ville. Il se situe a la limite entre les quartiers Belgrano et Palermo.

Traffic never stops. Maybe at night, and still I doubt it. I took this shot while crossing at a street light. The shot is not centered, a little shaken, but when I saw all those cars moving towards me, I hurried to the sidewalk. La circulation ne s'arrete jamais. Le traffic s'attenue peut etre la nuit, et encore j'en doute. J'ai pris cette photo en traversant l'avenue. La photo n'est bien sur pas bien centree, un peu flou, mais quand je me suis rendue compte que les voitures se rapprochaient a grande vitesse, je me suis vite precipitee sur le trottoir.

I caught a glimpse of their performance but when I got close they were done dancing. Instead I took their picture while they were taking a quick break. I took this photo in the neighbor La Boca, birthplace of the tango. Je les ai apercus rapidement alors qu'ils dansaient, mais malheureusement quand je me suis approchee, ils venaient de terminer. I waited but it was worth it. Going near the Obelisk on a Sunday, when it is Easter vacations, and you will feel "almost" alone, in this avenue, known as the widest in the world. Only a motorcycle was passing at the exact moment I took this photo. Here's some facts about the Obelisk. The Obelisk was built in May 1936 to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the founding of the city. It is located in the center of the Plaza de la República (Republic Square), the spot where the Argentine flag was flown for the first time in Buenos Aires, at the intersection of Nueve de Julio and Corrientes avenues. Its total height is 67 meters and its base area is 49 square meters. The architect in charge of its design was Alberto Prebisch. Construction took barely four weeks. J'ai attendu, mais ca en valait la peine. Se rendre a l'Obelisque un Dimanche, quand c'est les fetes de Paques, et on aurait l'impression de vous sentir "seul" sur cette avenue, connue pour etre la plus large au monde. Seule cette moto passait au moment ou j'ai pris la photo. L'obélisque a été construit en mai 1936 pour commémorer le 400eme anniversaire de la fondation de la ville. Il est situé au centre de la Plaza de la República (place de République), l'endroit exact où le drapeau Argentin a été erige pour la première fois à Buenos Aires, à l'intersection de l'Avenida 9 de Julio et l'Avenida Corrientes.

Born in 1957, it is a fictional character, protagonist of the comic strip of the same name created in 1962 as well as a series of animated cartoons, and a 1982 movie. The comic was written and drawn by the Argentine cartoonist Quino. The strip, featuring a little girl with a deep concern about humanity and world peace that rebels against the world as it is, ran from 1964 to 1973, enjoying high popularity in both Latin America and Europe. The story behind it varies in various latin american countries, it goes like this: In Spain, Mexico, Cuba and some Latin American countries Epiphany day is called El Día de los Reyes (The Day of the Kings). The day when the Three Kings or Three Magi of the Bible arrived to worship and bring gifts to the baby Jesus after following a star in the heavens. This day is sometimes known as the Día de los Tres Reyes Magos (The day of the Three Magi). Celebrated on January 6th in France, Argentina has it for Easter celebration. La Casa Rosada (Pink House), the presidential palace that was begun during the presidency of D. F. Sarmiento. It now occupies a site where colonial riverbank fortifications once stood. Today after repeated landfills, it stands more than a kilometer inland. From its balcony, Juan and Evan Peron and other politicians have convened throngs of impassioned Argentines when they felt it necessary to demonstrate public support. And of course Madonna stood on that very same spot for the movie Evita (which I still did not see). You may have seen them in your cities. Yesterday, while walking in Puerto Madero, the port of Buenos Aires, we saw so many of them lined up along the banks. This is Cows Parade Buenos Aires 2006, exhibition that has 120 natural size fiber glass cows on which the artists, painted and modeled, their artistic projects. This international movement has been made in the main cities of the world, among them Zurich, Prague, Brussels, New York, Chicago, Stockholm, Tokyo and Sydney, where the multicolored herds made by different artists have appeared. Hier, alors que nous nous promenions a Puerto Madero (le port de Buenos Aires), nous en avons vues des tas de vaches, de taille normale, en fibre de verre, alignees le long des berges. C'est le "Cows Parade Buenos Aires 2006" (La parade des vaches, Buenos Aires, 2006). Cette expo composee de plus de 120 vaches, sur lesquelles les artistes ont peint et modele leurs projets. Ce mouvement international a éte presenté dans les principales villes du monde, parmi lesquelles Zurich, Prague, Bruxelles, New York, Chicago, Stockholm, Tokyo et Sydney, là où les troupeaux multicolores, faits par différents artistes, sont apparus.

This trolley is carrying all sorts of antique things, from lamps, ventilators, strainers, etc. I'm still figuring out if people bring those things to the trolley guy, or if the trolley guy is selling them, by strolling in the streets. I saw it around Plaza Serrano's main square, in Palermo Viejo neighbor. Boutiques and restaurants are prominent during the day while trendy bars rule all the hours of the night. Ce charriot trimbale un tas d'antiquites tels que des lampes, ventilateurs, passoires, etc. Je ne sais toujours pas si les gens lui amenent ces brocantes ou si c'est lui qui les vend aux passants, en se baladant dans les rues. Je l'ai repere autour de la Place Serrano, dans Palermo Viejo (le vieux Palermo). Les boutiques et les restaurants sont les attractions principales pendant le jour tandis que les bars a la mode jouent un role important a toutes les heures de la nuit.

Watching a soccer game from outside the stadium ? This is possible. Park your bike outside the cancha (football field), stand on them, and you will have a not-so-bad-view of what's happening inside. That photo had been taken in Uruguay. That won't be seen in Buenos Aires where the football stadiums are 10 times bigger in size and heights. Voir un match de football sans etre present dans le stade? C'est possible. Garez votre moto a l'exterieur de la cancha (stade), montez dessus, et vous pourrez voir ce qui se passe a l'interieur. Cette photo a ete prise en Uruguay. C'est impossible de voir ca a Buenos Aires ou les stades de football sont 10 fois plus grand, de taille et de hauteur.

This is my street corner, right before getting on the big avenue always full of people. And of course, what's there, a kiosk, another one. This one specializing most on mangas as you can see on the windown display. Yes, you can find Japanese comics in a kiosk. Another great advantage of those magazines kiosks, where you can absolutely find everything. A l'angle de ma rue, juste avant de deboucher sur l'avenue principale, toujours bondee de monde. Et bien sur, qu'est ce que l'on trouve, un kiosque a journaux. Celui ci est principalement specialise dans la vente de mangas, comme vous pouvez le voir dans la vitrine. Et oui, on peut meme trouver des comics japonais dans un kiosque. Encore un avantage de ces kiosques, ou l'on peut dechiner absolument de tout.

Another street scene typical from Buenos Aires. Even though this can be seen in other cities worldwide. I used the zoom, since I was not sure that person will appreciate me taking his photo. And still his face does not look to happy ;) At the same time, I don't know if he was looking straight at me. But it was worth giving a try. Encore quelque chose typique a Buenos Aires, un cireur de chaussures. Cependant, je pense que cela existe dans d'autres grandes villes. Je me suis servie du zoom, car je ne suis pas sure que la personne aurait apprecie que je la photographie. En plus, a voir son visage, il n'a pas l'air tres content ;) En meme temps, je ne sais pas ou est ce qu'il regardait, me regardait-il ou regardait-il ailleurs ? En tout cas, cette scene valait la peine d'etre photographiee.

What you're looking at is people looking at a football game in a coffee place. They have their eyes stuck to the Tv screen that must be somewhere in a top corner. Even the waiters :) Football is of course popular in Argentina, as it is in any other part of the world. The 2 national football teams are Boca (former club of D.Maradona) and River. If you're a bit interested, check out the links to know more. I bet the same interest will happen for the World Cup coming really soon now! Ce que vous voyez est un groupe de personne en train de regarder un match de football dans un cafe. Il semblerait qu'ils aient tous les yeux rives sur l'ecran qui doit etre quelque part dans un coin. Meme les serveurs sont attentifs au match :) Le football est tout aussi important en Argentine qu'il ne l'est dans d'autres pays. Les 2 equipes nationales sont Boca (ancien club de D. A man and his kiosko, or kiosquero, as it is commonly called in Buenos Aires. This kind of kiosk is frequently seen in the city, where they sell all the magazines, newspapers you can dream of. But this one felt different to me. It looks more like that person is standing in a very, very limited space, as the picture may indicate. In a future posting, I will show you others kioskos, since they vary a lot around the city. Un homme et son kiosque, ou kiosquero, comme ils l'appellent a Buenos Aires. De ces kiosques, on en trouve un peu partout en ville, et vendent tous les magazines, journaux, que vous pouvez imaginer. Ce kiosque a pourtant quelque chose de different. Plus tard, je vous montrerai d'autres kiosques, car leurs formes diffèrent dans toute la ville.

Those strange, colored, bizarre, interesting houses are first visible across Lezama Park, where stands the Russian Church I showed you recently. When you start seeing those houses, wether you're on a bus or driving a car, you immediately know you're on your way to La Boca neighbor, which is considered the most colorful area in Buenos Aires. Those houses painted of rainbow colors are the same as in the neighbor itself. Muralists have turned the district's side-streets into avenues of color. And frequently, you can notice "puppets" hanging from the balconies. Ces maison etranges, colorees, et ceci dit interessantes sont visibles du parc Lezama ou se trouve l'eglise Russe que je vous ai montre recemment. Quand vous commencez a apercevoir ces maisons, que vous soyez en bus ou en voiture, il est clair que vous etes en chemin pour rejoindre le quartier La Boca, qui est le quartier le plus colore de Buenos Aires. I could not resist to another street scene. It seems that you all enjoy those scenes, so I will try to shoot more in the future. I retouched the picture so that it has another look and feel. The photo has shot really close from home, the intersection between Cabildo and Juramento is always busy. I find it worse coming back home, getting off the subway, around 7pm. You barely can't walk without bumping or touching someone on your way, I may be overstating a little, but I'm not that far from the truth. Je n'ai pas pu resister a vous montrer une autre scene de rue. Il semble que vous appreciez tous ces images, et j'essaierai d'en photographier d'autres prochainement. J'ai evidemment retouche la photo afin qu'elle ait une autre esthetique. La photo a ete prise tres pres de chez nous, a l'intersection de Cabildo et Juramento, ces 2 avenues etant toujours remplies de monde. Pour moi, le pire, c'est en sortant du metro, aux alentours de 19 heures. Il est difficile de marcher sans bousculer la personne a cote de vous ou venant d'en face. Ok j'exagere un peu, mais je ne suis pas long de la verite.

Street galleries on the main avenue Santa Fe. Second-hand stores, used-new cds music places, and the inevitable tattoo stores. In every major street gallerie in Buenos Aires, you can be sure to see those. As I've seen so far, most of the tattoo places, are always located in that kind of gallery. I barely saw any opening directly to the street. Les galeries marchandes de l'avenue Santa Fe. Les magasins de fringues d'occasion, vente de Cds neufs et d'occasion, et les inevitables magasins de tatouage. Dans chaque galerie marchande de Buenos Aires, vous pouvez être sûr de voir ces genres de boutiques. Comme j'ai pu le constater, la plupart des boutiques tatoo sont toujours regroupees dans les galeries marchandes. But of course, you can find a huge variety of fillings, including chicken, tuna, corn, pumpkin, etc. Believe me, if you get a slide of one of those for lunch, you won't be hungry until very late at night ;) Voila quelque chose de typique dans la cuisine traditionnelle. Something that makes quite an impression in the Buenos Aires architecture around it is the Russian Orthodox Church. Five towering sky-blue domes characterize the first Orthodox church built in Latin America, in 1904. Venetian mosaics, stained glass, and icons sent from St. Petersburg by Czar Nicholas II and Czarina Alexandra adorn the church. The church is located in the parc Lezama. Yesterday I spent it home due to a bad cold. So today no outside picture, but one taken home while I was watching Old Boy. Our 3 month-old cat, joined me in front of the laptop and watched it with me. Hard to say if she liked the movie, for my part, I enjoyed it a lot. J'ai passe la journee d'hier dedans a cause d'un mauvais froid que j'ai attrape. Donc pas de photos d'exterieur aujourd'hui. C'est une photo prise hier alors que je regardais le film Old boy, notre chatte de 3 mois, s'est installee devant moi pendant tout le film. Street vendors can be seen a lot in the st. of Buenos Aires, saling everything from toys to socks to electronics. And of course the inevitable McDonald in the background. What you are watching is how the interphones look like in a building entrance. They will vary a lot. Sometimes stuck in the wall, those "porteros electricos" (interphones) may have different shape and color. I find them extremely original. They consist of a grid, in the top part, you will see the following letters: A,B,C, etc and on the left side, you will read the floor numbers: 1,2,3, etc... A person's address usually consists of the street name followed by the floor number and a letter. You just have to connect the number and the letter, and press the button to reach the person :) Les interphones qui peuplent les entrees d'immeubles ici en Argentine. Ces interphones varient enormement. Souvent collés au mur, ou "poses" a l'entree, comme celui-ci, ces "porteros electricos" (interphones) peuvent avoir des formes et couleurs différentes. Je les trouve extrêmement originaux. Une grille occupe la partie centrale. Sur la partie supérieure de l'interphone, vous verrez les lettres suivantes: A,B,C, etc.. et sur le côté gauche, vous lirez les numéros d'étage: 1.2.3. etc. Normalement l'adresse postale comprend le nom de la rue suivi du numéro de l'étage et d'une lettre. Une fois que vous avez relie ces 2 elements sur la grille de l'interphone, vous n'avez plus qu'a sonner :)

I mentioned in Luggi's Los Angeles blog that I will talk and show you about Argentinian buses. And today is the day :) I'm really fascinated with the Argentinian means of transport, or their "colectivos", "bondis", castellano for buses. There is a big difference between the "colectivo porteño" (porteño = this is how the people from Buenos Aires call themselves, or everything else related from here) and other urban transports from big cities. The difference is in the love of the drivers for the small decorative/ornamental details they add to the buses. The graphical lines, lights, curtains, images, incrustation of any sort in the windows, fans, and many other things, one can find in a bus. For me, the buses are synonym of 'kitsch and rococo, with and esthetic that is rarely seen elsewhere, combining judicious lines of colors and graphics, to make them a unique symbols of Buenos Aires'. Here are a few examples of pix to show you what I just talked about. My own pictures are the 2 on the right side, and the one on the bottom-left corner. The other 2 are taken from "El libro de los colectivos" published by la marca. It is a bilingual edition full of pictures as the ones I posted. J'avais parle dans le Blog Los Angeles de Luggi qu'un jour je vous montrerai les bus en Argentine. Donc aujourd'hui, je vais vous faire decouvrir le principal moyen de transport Argentin. Les bus Argentins me fascinent, leur "colectivos" comme ils l'appellent, ou encore "bondis", castellano pour "bus". Il y a une grande difference entre "le colectivo porteño" (porteño= terme employe pour parler d'une personne qui habite Buenos Aires), des autres moyens de transport urbains que j'ai pu voir dans d'autres pays. Les lignes graphiques, lumières, rideaux, images, incrustations de toute sorte dans les fenêtres, les ventilateurs, et beaucoup d'autres choses, que l'on peut trouver dans un autobus. Pour moi, les autobus sont synonymes de kitsch et rococo, avec cependant une esthétique qui est rarement vu ailleurs. Une utilisation judicieuse des couleurs. Ces bus representent les symboles uniques de Buenos Aires. Mes photos sont celles de droite, et celle en bas a gauche. Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay. I mentioned this city in an early posting, and because I have tons of pictures taken there, I share one more with you today. A visit to the historic center of Colonia is like a walk back in time. Founded in 1680 by the Portuguese, this old colonial town is renowned for its cobbled, windy streets and colorful houses reminiscent of old Lisbon. The following picture really looks like there are shooting an historic movie, and what we see could be the movie set. Well of course this was not the case, I'm just making it up ;) Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay. J'ai deja parle de cette ville dans un autre "posting", et evidemment nous avons des tonnes de photos. Une visite au centre historique de Colonia c'est comme remonter dans le temps. Fondé en 1680 par les Portugais, cette vieille ville coloniale est renommée pour ses rues pavees et venteuses et ses maisons colorées réminiscentes de la vieille Lisbonne. L'image ci-dessous ressemble vraiment au tournage d'un film historique, et ce que nous apercevons, pourrait être le set du film. Evidemment, ceci n'était pas le cas, je ne fais que l'inventer ;)

Another street scene from Chinatown. This street, in particular, is full with those craftsart street vendors, or food vendors, with little trolley where they cook in front of you. I did not have problem taking their pictures, first because they're not looking directly at me, and second I used the zoom :)) Une autre scene typique de Chinatown. Dans cette rue, en particulier, on y voit tout plein d'artisans, ou encore des marchands, qui avec leur installation roulante, preparent a manger devant vous. Last Saturday, while waiting at a street light on the avenue Cabildo, our nearest big avenue from home, I turned around and then I saw this batch of people. Cabildo gets really crowded on week ends, for shopping, etc. This is why I prefer the nearest smaller streets to make my way home ;) Buenos Aires is a huge city, I like crowd, people, but sometimes it can be too much. Samedi dernier, alors que nous attendions a un croisement pour traverser sur l'avenue Cabildo, je me retourne et c'est alors que j'apercois cette foule. Cabildo, pendant les week ends, il y a beaucoup de passage, pour y faire du shopping, etc. C'est pourquoi je prefere les rues adjacentes, plus calme, pour rentrer chez moi ;) Buenos Aires est une ville enorme, j'aime la foule, les gens, mais des fois, c'est beaucoup trop.

Chinatown is located in the neighbor Belgrano. It is extending over a few blocks and one can find almost everything from food to typical vegetables, restaurants, schools, a buddhist temple, supermarkets, stores specialized in soy products, salons, herbalist's shops and videoclubs. During the week-ends, the neighbor receives 15.000 visitors. Yesterday we decided to check it more in details especially the supermarkets. In mood for sushis, we stepped in one, and that's where I took the following pictures. First top picture shows a general view of the supermarket. Following clockwise, the pinkish "Preserved duck eggs" caught my attention 'cause of its packaging, the same with the packages for the 'Dry scallop laver soup' and finally the duck paws!! No idea what they use them for, could they use it in soups ? Well Lisi, I think you could help me here. If you know anything, share it with us ;) Well again Chinese supermarkets are a pure discovery, colorful, at least they are to me. As I walked back with my boyfriend, he suddendly told me: "Think about this, I'm Argentinian, you are French, we speak English together, and we eat Chinese food. How more international could we be?" and he was right :) Chinatown est situe dans le quartier Belgrano. Il s'etend sur qques pates de maison, on peut trouver presque tout: de la nourriture aux légumes typiques, restaurants, écoles, un temple bouddhiste, supermarchés, magasins spécialisés en produits de soja, salons, les magasins herboristes et videoclubs. Pendant les week ends, le quartier chinois recoit a peu pret 15.000 visiteurs. Hier nous avons decide d'y aller faire un saut et d'aller faire qques courses au supermarche. D'ou j'ai pris les photos publiees ci-dessous. En partant du haut et dans le sens des aiguilles d'une montre: "les oeufs conservés de canard" rosâtres ont attire mon attention grace a son empaquetage, la meme chose avec les paquets pour "potage de coquilles saint-jacques sèches" (pardonnez la traduction car je n ai aucune idee de ce que c'est) et finalement des pates de canard!! Je ne sais pas a quoi elles servent, peut etre dans la soupe ? Je pense, Lisi, que tu peux nous aider. Si tu as une idee de ce que c'est, dis le nous ;) Bref, les supermarches chinois, tres colores, sont toujours une grande decouverte pour moi. En rentrant mon copain me dit tout d'un coup: "Penses-y, je suis Argentin, tu es Francaise, nous parlons Anglais ensemble et nous mangeons Chinois. Comment pourrions-nous être plus internationaux?" et il avait raison :)

Arriving to Buenos Aires after a day spent in Uruguay. A part of Buenos Aires skyline. This is where are concentrated all the big companies like Microsoft, IBM, etc. By night, as any other skylines, the view is really nice. A l'arrivee a Buenos Aires apres une journee passee en Uruguay. Une partie de la skyline de la ville. C'est ici que se concentrent toutes les grandes entreprises, telles que Microsoft, IBM, etc. De nuit, et comme toutes autres skylines, la vue est vraiment jolie.

Santiago Calatrava's Puente De La Mujer (Bridge Of The Woman) is the architect's only work in South America. The 335-foot-long suspension pedestrian bridge is broken up into three sections, two static and one mobile. The central portion of the bridge was designed to rotate 90 degrees to allow water traffic to pass, with the two static portions connecting to pedestrian streets on either side of the dam. The brigde is located in Puerto Madero, the riverfront area of Buenos Aires. Puente De La Mujer (Pont de la femme de Santiago Calatrava) est le seul travail de l'architecte en Amérique Du sud. Le pont piétonnier en suspension de 102 metres de long est divise en trois sections, deux statiques et une partie mobile. La partie centrale du pont a été conçue pour tourner a 90 degrés et permettre aux bateaux de passer, et les deux parties statiques relient les rues piétonnières de chaque côté du barrage. Le pont est situe a Puerto Madero, sur les berges de Buenos Aires.

For 3 days, Hotel Bauen, holds the 2nd "Convencion Nacional de Tatuajes". We decided to stop by, and I took the occasion to take some tattoo shots. Here's one of many pictures I took. Interesting the observe the artist reproduce that drawing on the guy's back. I'm a huge fan of tattoos. This is another way to show art, I believe. It'd be interesting to know what you all think about tattoos in general: love it, dislike it, don't care... let me know :) Pendant 3 jours, l'hotel Bauen, presente la 2eme "Convencion Nacional de Tatuajes". On a decide d'y aller faire un saut et par la meme occasion prendre qques photos. Voila l'une des nombreuses photos que j'ai prises. C'est interessant de voir comment l'artiste reproduit ce dessin sur le dos de la personne. Je suis une fan des tattoos. Pour moi c'est une autre facon de montrer l'art. Today has been such a busy day, and because it is getting late, and because I m not going to be in front of a computer for a while, because I m using the computer of someone else, and because I don t have my own pictures available, I m showing you a picture that I just stole from the internet. San Isidro is located north of Buenos Aires. Its neo-gothic church replaced an original church that had lasted from 1708 until 1895. Completed in 1898, the church was consecrated as a cathedral in 1957. Inside, there is room for 3000 worshippers and also a relic, donated by Spain’s king Alfonso XIII, in 1928, purported to be bone of St Isidro. The tower soars to 70 m/230 ft containing a clock and belfry. San Isidro se situe au nord de Buenos Aires. Son église néo-gothique a remplacé une église d'origine qui avait duré de 1708 a 1895. Terminée en 1898, l'église a été consacrée comme cathédrale en 1957. Meat in Argentina is good but really good !!! When invited to an Asado (bbq) or eat at a Parilla (bbq restaurant), one has to have his/her stomach empty and ready to ingurgitate (in a nice way) the amount of grilled meat that you will be served. It usually consists of 5 different selected meats among: Tenderloin, Pork Sausage, Ribs, Pork Loin & Beef Short ribs, liver, kidneys. Some lemon on the side with some vegetables, rice, sweet potatoes or anything you will order, the asado is one of the best culinary experience in the country. La viande en Argentine est tres, tres bonne! Lorsque vous etes invite a un Asado (bbq) ou alors a manger a une Parilla (restaurants specialisees a vous servir un asado), on doit etre pret a pouvoir ingurgiter une quantite phenomenale de viande grillee. Habituellement un asado consiste de 5 viandes selectionnees parmi lesquelles: Filet, Saucisse au Porc, Côtelette de porc et de boeuf, foie, reins, boudin noir grille, et enfin chorizo. Un peu de citron par dessus tout ca, accompagne de legumes, riz, patates douces ou tout autre chose que vous commanderez, l'asado est l'une des meilleures experiences culinaires du pays.

Belgrano is one of the most popular neighbor in Buenos Aires. One of the most important shopping centers, and has some 200.000 inhabitants. About 2 blocks from where we live, there is the Plaza General Manuel Belgrano which is the site of one of the capital´s most popular craft fairs. On sunny week ends, it is full of shoppers. Belgrano est l'un des quartiers le plus populaire de Buenos Aires. L'un des centres commerciaux les plus important de la ville, et compte a peut pres 200.000 habitants. A 2 blocs environ d'où nous vivons, se trouve la Plaza Général Manuel Belgrano qui est l'emplacement d'une des foires d'art artisanal les plus populaires de la capitale. Les week ends, par beau temps, la foire est remplie de passants/touristes.

This is a park right behind our apart. only a block away. To see green around big buildings always feels nice. Joggers, walkers, dogs are always seen in that park. The other night, we were walking in the neighbor when we ended up seeing the bus below. I was then told that this was the buses in Buenos Aires from 1950 to 1990 which were small buses built out of truck chassis by Mercedes Benz. Now the city is using them as Auxilio (literally help) for intervention when the city buses get stuck or need reparation in the city. L'autre jour, alors que nous marchions dans le quartier, nous nous sommes retrouvez en face de ce bus. Par la suite, on m'a dit que ces bus etaient en service a Buenos Aires entre 1950 et 1990. C'etait des petits bus construit sur des châssis de camion par Mercedes Benz. Maintenant la ville de Buenos Aires les utilisent pour depanner les bus de ville en cas d'urgence.

Today, I'll bring you to Uruguay. I frequently go there, it's only 3 hours boat from Buenos Aires and it can easily be visited in one day. Colonia del Sacramento, or simply called Colonia, is a city in southwestern Uruguay and is the oldest town in the country . The historical parts of Colonia are named by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. I will show you many pictures in the future about Uruguay. This photo has been taken in the Whisper street - Calle D- Los Suspiros - and is known as the most typical, oldest st. in Colonia covered with pavements. Aujourd'hui, je vous amener en Uruguay. Argentina is one of the best places to eat ice cream. Portenos are ice-cream-mad people and you'll find yourself in front of an heladeria (ice cream shop) every 5 blocks. Persicco is one of the most important ice cream quality chains in Argentina. And this is the motorbike they're using for deliveries, using Serpicco business card-shaped symbol as 'trunk'. This neighborhood retains a strong European influence, with many of its early settlers being from the Italian city of Genoa. It possesses a lot of the most colourful houses in Buenos Aires. Recoleta cemetery. In an early posting I told you that I will share pictures from inside Recoleta cemetery. Well, here´s a first one. I can't remember whose grave is this one, but what I can say is that that cemetery offers some nice architectural beauties (statues, graves..) and it is worth spending some time wandering around. Street scene. Photo taken on the st. Juramento, about 2 block away from home. this is where I get on the subte (subway/metro) every morning. The big avenue is Cabildo, full of shops, cafe, restaurants, music stores, galeries, and lots of commercial billboards. On the right, you can see the Sony store. Smaller than any other Sony stores I've seen, it does have a nice range of products. I do like the architecture of the Berlin's Sony center much better. That avenue is full of people during the week days, getting even worse on the week ends. I usually prefer passing a parallel st. and be much quieter ;) Dear all, I alse like to introduce a new daily photo blog: Rheingau region in Germany. Let's wish Nicola the best with her new blog :) Photo de rue. La photo a ete prise au niveau de la rue Juramento, a peut pres a 2 pates de maison de notre apt. C'est la que je prend le metro tous les matins. Cette grande avenue c'est Cabildo, remplie de boutiques, cafes, restaurants, magasins de musique, galerie marchande et chargee de panneaux publicitaire. Sur la droite, se trouve la boutique Sony. Plus petit que la plupart des centres Sony que j'ai pu voir, le centre propose une gamme de produits assez variee. Je prefere de loin l'architecture du centre Sony de Berlin. Cette avenue fourmille de personnes en semaine, et c'est pire les week ends. Je prefere plutot coupe par les rues adjacentes qui sont beaucoup plus calmes.

Buenos Aires zoo. To access it, You enter through the quasi-Roman triumphal arch into this architecturally eclectic, 45-acre city zoo dating from 1874. The zoo is always a great pleasure to visit, thanks to its big variety of species. This time, we saw a red panda or Firefox for its Chinese name. I found it so cute, that I wanted to share the picture with you. The two Red pandas are originally from the Himalayan mountains but these were donated to the Buenos Aires Zoo by two Japanese zoos. The rare pandas are in danger of becoming extinct because their natural habitat is being destroyed. The funny characteristic of this zoo is that Some smaller animals roam freely, you can approach them, touch them. I never saw this in any other zoo. Very attracting. Zoo de Buenos Aires. Pour y accéder, Vous entrez sous une voûte triomphale quasi-Romaine, pour aboutir a ce zoo a l'architecture éclectique, datant de 1874. C'est toujours un plaisir a le visiter, en grande partie, grace a ses nombreuses varietes d'especes qui le peuplent. Cette fois, nous avons vu un panda rouge autrement appele Firefox, son nom chinois. Je l'ai trouve si mignon que j'ai voulu partager cette photo avec vous. Les 2 pandas rouges sont originaires des Himalaya, mais 2 zoos japonais en ont fait cadeau au zoo de Buenos Aires. Les pandas sont en voie d'extinction car leur habitat naturel est en train d'etre detruit. La particularite de ce zoo reside dans le fait que des petits animaux se promenent librement, vous pouvez les approcher et meme les toucher. Je n'ai jamais vu ca dans d'autres zoos. Tres attrayant.

Recoleta's feria is hold every week ends. Great place to find souvenirs from Buenos Aires, but of course, at prices targeted for the tourists. It is nice to walk around, relax on the grass, or even check out Recoleta cultural center, the park is the perfect place to enjoy on Sundays. La feria du quartier Recoleta se passe tous les week ends. On peut y trouvers des souvenirs sympas de Buenos Aires, bien sur a des prix eleves, pour touristes. C'est un endroit sympa pour se balader, se reposer sur la pelouse, ou visiter le centre culturel Recoleta. Le parc est un endroit privilegie pour une balade du Dimanche.

Corrientes Avenue is busy with shops, restaurants, traffic, bookstores and the most important of all, theaters. It is the theatrical center in the city. Teatro El Nacional is located at Avenida Corrientes 960, only 50 meters of the big Avenue, 9 of Julio. The theater was destroyed in 982 by a fire. It was one of the most prestigious theater of Buenos Aires. L'avenue Corrientes fourmille de boutiques, restaurants, circulation, libraires et, le plus important, de theatres. C'est le centre theatral de la ville. Le Theatre El Nacional se situe au numero 960 de cette meme avenue, a quelque 50 metres de la grande Avenue 9 de Julio. Le theatre a ete detruit par un incendie en 982. Il reste a ce jour l'un de plus prestigieux de la ville.

Estimated Jewish population in Buenos Aires: 250,000. In the top twelve Jewish populations in the world ranking, Argentina comes in 7th position. I had no idea, they Jewish population was that important in Argentina. One day, while visiting a mall in Buenos Aires, I faced the following McDonald's. It got me by surprise, since it was my first time to see a McDonald's Kosher. Since then, I looked into the Jewish population ranking to give you those estimates ;) I always told myself I gotta try that one time, which I still never did, but it is on my list of things to do here :)) especially since Argentinian meat is known to be the best in the world (which I absolutely confirm), the Kosher meat must be something.. La population Juive a Buenos Aires est estimee a 250,000. Parmi les douze populations juives principales au monde, l'Argentine arrive en 7eme position. Je n'avais pas la moindre idee que la population Juive etait aussi important en Argentine. Un jour, alors que je visitais une galerie marchande a Buenos Aires, je me suis retrouvee nez a nez avec ce Mc Donald's. Ca m'a surpris car c'etait la premiere fois que je voyais un Mc Donald's Kosher. Depuis ce jour la, j'ai examiné le rang mondial de la population juive, pour vous donner ces évaluations. Je me suis toujours dit que je devais au moins essayer ca une fois, ce que je n'ai toujours pas fait, mais ca fait parti de ma liste de choses a faire a Buenos Aires :)) Surtout que l'Argentine est reputee pour avoir la meilleure viande au monde (ce que je tiens a confirmer), la viande Kosher doit donc valoir la peine..

Improvised football game and in the background the Buenos Aires' public library. Conceived by its director, writer Jorge Luis Borges, and possibly stemming from the infinite labyrinth of books depicted in his novel El Aleph, this monolithic structure took three decades to complete. It opened in 1992 after much red tape and now towers over Plaza Ruben Darío. The work of Le Corbusier inspired the modernist structure, which was designed by Clorinda Testa. Match de foot improvise avec en fond la bibliotheque nationale de Buenos Aires. Concue par son directeur, l'ecrivain Jorge Luis Borges, et provenant probablement du labyrinthe infini des livres représentés dans son roman EL Aleph, cette structure monolithique a necessite 3 decennies avant d'etre terminee. La bibliotheque a ete inauguree en 1992, et domine la Place Ruben Dario. Le travail de Le Corbusier a inspire son architecture moderne, qui a ete creee par Clorinda Testa.

Graffitis have always played a big role in Argentina. Started as political movements, they quickly expanded to become street art. The majority of graffitis seen in Buenos Aires are using the stencil technique (Stencil graffiti makes use of a paper or cardboard media to carve out an image or text, and later, paint is sprayed through the holes onto a surface below. Stencils can be quickly taped to a wall and sprayed so the artist can avoid prosecution.) One day I was walking in a quiet st. near the Congress, and that wall caught my attention. So many graffitis that you can't miss them. Les graffitis ont de toujours joue un role important en Argentine. Cela a commence en tant que mouvement politique, par la suite, les graffitis se sont rapidement etendus a devenir un art de rue. La plupart des graffitis que l'on peut voir a Buenos Aires utilisent la technique "stencil" ou encore appele pochoir en Francais. Il s'agit d'utiliser un papier ou carton pour y decouper une image ou du texte. Plus tard, appose sur une surface, on y pulverise de la peinture, par les trous. La technique pochoir peut tres vite etre apposee sur un mur et y appliquer la peinture afin que l'artiste ne puisse pas etre poursuivit. Un jour, alors que je passais dans une rue plutot tranquille, pres du Congres, ce mur a attire mon attention. Il y avait tant de graffitis qu'il etait impossible de les eviter.

Colon Theatre

The Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires is one of the most famous opera houses in the world. The present theatre, the second with that name, opened in 1908 after twenty years under construction. It has 2,367 seats and standing room for 1,000. The collage is for you to have different views, since I could not only show you one part of that amazing opera house :) Le Teatre Colon, a Buenos Aires, est l'un des operas les plus celebres au monde. Le teatre actuel, deuxieme portant se nom, a ouvert en 1908, apres une vingtaine d'annees passe en construction. Il possede 2,367 sieges et une capacite debout de 1,000 personnes. Local police guy looking at sweets in front of a kiosko. This kind of kiosko is commonly found in Buenos Aires. Usually inside shopping galleries or facing the street. The kind of sweets one can find is incredible. This is maybe why he's figuring out what to take ;) Un policier comtemplant les bonbons qui s'offrent a lui. Ce genre de kiosque est frequent a Buenos Aires. Normalement situe a l'interieur de galerie-boutiques ou donnant acces sur la rue, la variete de bonbons que l'on peut y trouver est impressionnante. Kiosko - drugstore/deli- in Argentina. They can be found at about every st. corners in Buenos Aires. You can find anything you're looking for, they are generally open until late at night. The shops vary in size, in what they offer, and in colors. These 2 kioskos are small, and the window is the only opening to the pedestrians. Often crowded with items, it is difficult to notice the vendor usually hidden behind. Other bigger kioskos exist, which I will show you on a later posting. Kiosque en Argentine- drugstore/deli (aux Etats-Unis). On peut les trouver a presque tous les coins de rue a Buenos Aires. Et on peut pratiquement y trouver de tout (ou presque), ils restent ouverts tres tard la nuit. Ces boutiques se differencient par leur taille, par ce qu'elles offrent, et leur couleurs varient aussi. Ces 2 kiosques sont petits, et seule la fenetre est accessible aux pietons. Ils sont souvent encombres de produits, il en devient difficile d'apercevoir le vendeur souvent cache a l'arriere. D'autres kiosques, plus grand, existent, je vous les montrerai dans un autre article que je publierai bientot.

Florida street

Florida is a pedestrian street where you will find a lot of nice shops. In a few blocks you can find anything you need.There are full of shops and also you can see artists dancing tango, playing music, among other things. On that same street you have Galerias Pacifico (the building on the right in the picture), it's a shopping mall where you can find a cultural center called Borges. The Galerias Pacifico has to be the most architecturally beautiful shopping center in Argentina. It was built in the late 1800s and inspired on the Bon Marche in Paris. Florida street is located in the city's center. Florida c'est une rue pietonne ou l'on peut trouver tout plein de boutiques sympas. Remplie de boutiques et de touristes, on peut y voir des demonstrations de tango, des gens joueant de la musique, entre autre chose. Galerias Pacifico (l'edifice a droite sur la photo) se trouve sur Florida. C'est une galerie-boutiques, et c'est la que vous trouverez le centre culturel Borges. L'architecture de la Galerias Pacifico en fait un centre commercial des plus magnifiques d'Argentine. La galerie a ete construite fin 1800 d'apres le Bon Marche a Paris. La rue Florida se trouve au centre ville de Buenos Aires.

Opposite direction from the Obelisk, the Avenida 9 de Julio ends up on that really nice facade. In the background, this is the French Embassy, at Cerrito 1399, right in the Recoleta neighbor. More info: French Embassy This is one of the most beautiful embassy building in Buenos Aires. If I can remember well, Italy's embassy shows a really nice architecture too. En direction opposee de l'Obelisque, l'avenue 9 de Julio se termine sur cette tres jolie facade. En fond d'image, se trouve l'Ambasse de France, au numero 1399 de la rue Cerrito, en plein quartier Recoleta. Pour plus d'infos: French Embassy. C'est l'une des plus belles ambasses de Buenos Aires. Si je me souviens bien, l'ambasse d'Italie a, elle aussi, une tres belle architecture.

Cafe Tortoni

Cafe Tortoni or probably the most famous cafe in Buenos Aires. It is an institution for the portenos. Locals come to enjoy drinks, cafe, eat, rest, look around. Tourists come because of its name and reputation, and because it offers tango shows every night. It has a very Parisian spirit, even the waiters (all in their 50´s -from what I saw when I went there) wear the french black and white outfit to serve clients. Founded in 1858, Cafe Tortoni was originally owned by a Mr. Tounan, and he named it after the famous Parisian cafe. For those of you if you come to Buenos Aires, this should be included in your what-to-see/do-list.

A big avenue

9 de Julio is an avenue in Buenos Aires, Argentina. At 140 meters, it is one of the world’s widest avenues. Its name honors Argentine Independence Day (July 9, 1816). The avenue's unusual width is due to the fact that it spans en entire "cuadra", the distance between two streets in the checkboard pattern used in Buenos Aires. The distance between adjacent streets is roughly 110 meters, greater than the equivalent Manhattan distance. I think it is the biggest avenue I got to cross!! Crossing the avenue often requires a few minutes, as all intersections have traffic lights. For pedestrians, depending their walking speed, it takes them between 2 to 3 green lights to cross the avenue.

Quilmes, the traditional beer of Argentina. I will compare it to Budweiser in the States. Light beer that states good. Just good (for me, the best beers are from Germany, like Pilsner or Spaten). Really enjoyable with pizza around here. About Quilmes: Founded in 1888 in Quilmes, Buenos Aires Province, by Otto Bemberg, a German immigrant. The company quickly started growing and in the 20s it was already the most popular beer in Buenos Aires. Since then, it has become something of a national symbol. It sponsors the Argentina national football team, and the colours of its labels are Argentina's light blue and white.

Bus signs

For the first time visitor, those signs may not be as easy to notice as they are for the locals. Sometimes, and not for every bus stop in the city, the signs are in a very bad shape as shown in the photo. Usually they "hang" up on telegraphic posts. Often bent in 2, it is hard to read the number on them. Not all the bus stops have this kind of marking, and the traditional bus stops, like a covered shelter, have the buses numbers clearly stated on the front.

Panoramic view from one part of Buenos Aires. I took the picture from the English tower or Torre de los Ingleses. San Martin Plaza (as shown in the center of the picture) is located in the neighbor Retiro. Once a muddy riverbank suburb at the northern end of the city, this plaza gradually evolved, taking its place as the second most important in the city. Today it's one of the most sumptuous neighborhoods in Buenos Aires.

Water building

This is Buenos Aires's Water Palace, a fantastic structure of over 300,000 lustrous, multicolored faience bricks made by Royal Doulton and shipped from Britain. Its original interior engineering components were made in various countries, with Belgium as the largest contributor. Originally, the Water Palace was meant to be a humble building, constructed as a response to the yellow fever epidemic that hit San Telmo and other neighborhoods in Buenos Aires in 1877. In the days before plumbing, drinking water was held in collecting pools in individual homes, which helped to spread the disease. Alarmed, the city began looking for a spot to construct new, sanitary facilities to prevent another outbreak. As this was the highest point in the city, meaning water stored here could use gravity to flow down the pipes into residences, this location was chosen for the water tower.

Dog Walker...

Commonly seen in Buenos Aires every other block, what I call Pets Sitter, mainly men (but some women can be seen too) walking with about 8/10 dogs. I heard the law restricts them to only have 8 dogs on leash at a time, but I often see the dog walkers with more than 8. It is generally a pleasant view to see all those 10 dogs walking at the same time as a group :).. I always smile when I see this.

How to be in line

Typical bus line in Buenos Aires. I'm always impressed to see how well they respect their turn to get on the bus here. Sometimes the line of people can be spread over half a block. Someone who's unlucky to get in the bus the first time, will just wait for the second one to pass by. I´ll be curious to know how this works in other places ? Let me know how it is in other countries, to see if they are as respectful as they are here. Thanks :)

Palacio del Congreso

The Congress building from Buenos Aires, located at the west end of Avenida de Mayo.The architecture is imposing, and its enormous granite steps symbolize the high Andes and the fountain at is base represent the Atlantic Ocean. I've seen the fountain, and what a shame to see it blanketed with graffiti. Completely covered by red paint. It's been said that this dated back from the 1983 military dictatorship, but I think that the 2001 economic crisis has a lot to do as well :( The green-domed Palacio del Congreso costed twice more than its original budget, it is modeled on Washington's Capitol and topped by an 85m dome, the palace was completed in 1906.

View taken at the foot of the Obelisco on the Ave. 9 de Julio, facing la Avenida Corrientes. The intersection, between the Obelisco and Avenida Corrientes with many other big avenues, makes this spot one of the really busiest one in the capital. Busy with people, traffic, taxis, noise....

Typical, in Buenos Aires, to order a cafe con leche (coffee & milk) and some tostados (let´s call it toast) of ham and cheese. Made of bread´s crumbs, super thin, they represent a good snack in all coffee places in Argentina.
